Holt Doctors have our doctors' careers in mind
Holt Doctors work hard to support our doctors and ensure that they receive the highest level of service. We have an experienced team that is dedicated to supporting our doctors with their revalidations, identifying their Responsible Officer (RO) and identifying their designated body (DB).
Our team also offers assistance with arranging our doctors' annual appraisals - with our doctors' career development in mind, our team only work with the best appraisers, who are highly experienced doctors, meaning that they get the best support from their appraisal process. At the head of this team is Holt Doctors' own Responsible Officer, Dr David Walker.
Holt Doctors' Responsible Officer
Our Responsible Officer at Holt Doctors is Dr David Walker, with over 25 years of healthcare experience and knowledge of the revalidation process, he supports all doctors who have Holt as their Designated Body.
As RO, David will oversee the revalidation process for all our agency doctors, ensuring they meet GMC's standards and deliver high-quality care, and our medical staff continue to meet the highest standards of care and professional development.
As well as this, he can leverage his extensive experience in both clinical practice and appraisal leadership to further enhance the quality of our medical services.
1. What to expect
Firstly, you will need to identify the designated body that will help you with revalidation. Typically, this is the organisation through which you do the most of your work, e.g. your hospital, GP practice or locum agency. If the majority of your work throughout the year is booked through Holt Doctors, we are potentially your designated body. If you think this is the case, contact us at [email protected].
For more information on how to identify your designated body, click here.
2. Arrange your annual appraisals
A Responsible Officer from your designated body will arrange annual appraisals which are based on the core guidance for doctors, set out in the Good Medical Practice (GMP). Appraisals focus on four main areas:
- Knowledge, skills and performance
- Safety and quality
- Communication, partnership and teamwork
- Maintaining trust
Essentially, the appraisal process is there to help you monitor your performance, evidence that you are up-to-date and fit to continue to practice, enable you to reflect on the supporting information you have collected (see below) and identify areas for practice development.
All our Appraisals are required to be carried out using the L2P system. As a Dr that connects with us your information will be automatically transferred to the L2P appraisal portfolio system and you will receive a welcome e-mail with information on how to begin your appraisal process.
Holt has a bank of quality approved Appraisers across the UK, and most are happy to do this via Skype too. Please contact our team at [email protected] for more info.
3. Collect Supporting Information - Multi Source Feedback (MSF)
Once in every 5-year revalidation cycle you will need to collect Multi Source Feedback from your patients and colleagues.
L2P also offer this service at a reduced fee of £60 + VAT. We are also happy to accept similar MSF reports from established companies such as Edgecumbe, Equiniti 360, Fourteen Fish, CFEP etc
Benefits of keeping it all on L2P:
- All managed form 1 central dashboard allowing you to monitor progress
- Colleague feedback (online) with unlimited number of respondents
- Patient feedback service including full data input
- Choose to receive pre-printed packs or print your own
- Configurable question sets with GMC as standard
- National benchmark data
- Attractive reports
Please contact [email protected] for more information.
4. Engage in Continuing Professional Development & Quality Improvement Activity
Based on the feedback from your appraisals, as well as other information drawn from your designated body, every 5 years your Responsible Officer will make a recommendation to the GMC that your license should be revalidated.
There are certain requirements that are needed by the GMC for the revalidation process, one of the contributing factors is your quality improvement activity. Please visit this page from the GMC for further detail on this. Other resources for CPD collection are as follows: BMJ Learning, MDU, RSM, and doctors.net.
Finally, the GMC will carry out its own series of checks, after which your license will be revalidated and you will be able to continue to practice.
Anyone that works with Holt Doctors has access to the Appraisal Loyalty Bonus scheme, and the points you earn from this can be used to cover some of the cost of your revalidation. More information can be found here.
If Holt Doctors is your designated body or for more information on revalidation, please email us at [email protected].
