NHS England is once again running the GP winter indemnity scheme in conjunction with all different indemnity companies.
From the 1st October 2017 until the 2nd April 2018, NHS England will once again be running a winter indemnity scheme for GPs. This part of a broader commitment to address the issue of rising indemnity costs and aims to assist with winter resilience in primary care.

The scheme is designed to meet the costs of personal professional indemnity insurance for any additional out-of-hours work undertaken by GPs this winter, enabling GPs freedom to work extra sessions without having to pay additional subscriptions to a medical defence organisation (MDO).

This is the third year that NHS England has run this winter pressures indemnity scheme, which last year secured an additional 80,000 sessions of GP cover in out-of-hours and unscheduled care.

A large number of providers have already signed up to this scheme in anticipation of their additional staffing requirements.

This is an ideal opportunity for you to help your local out-of-hours provider at no extra cost to yourself.
